Why should I hire a criminal defense attorney?

Posted By The Law Office of Timothy Hessinger || 22-Aug-2012

Many people ask us why they should retain Hessinger and Kilfin Law when the State of Florida or the Federal Government will appoint an attorney to represent them for close to nothing. There are in fact many very good attorneys that work for the Public Defender's office. However, these lawyers are restrained and limited by the system that they work within. For example, at The Law Office of Timothy Hessinger we emphasize attacking the allegations before the State Attorney or the Government files formal charges.

Our experience has demonstrated over and over again that prosecutors have much more discretion to drop or lower charges at the front end of a case before formal charges are filed. In almost all cases, the public defender does not start actively defending a case until after formal charges are filed, thus missing the best opportunity to have criminal charges dropped or reduced.

At The Law Office of Timothy Hessinger, we tell the other side of the story before formal charges are set in stone. We believe it is critical that an experienced Tampa Criminal Defense Attorney personalize the client's side of the story - the last thing you want is a prosecutor making a decision that will have severe consequences on your future with only one side of the story.
